Versatile stir fry sauce recipe: low sugar, gluten free, salt reduced, vegan
I get asked a lot, what kind of stir fry sauce should I use? More people are becoming aware how much sugar, salt and additives are in the store brought stir fry sauce. You are having all these wonderful vegetables but not wanting the sauce to ruin all your hard work.
I don’t have the magic answer for a sugar free, salt free, similar tasting sauce. But this is what I experimented with the other day. It’s easily adapted to certain dietary requirements and contains a lot less bad guys per serve.
•1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce or Tamari (gluten free) or coconut aminos (soy free)
•1/4 cup chicken/vegetable broth (lower in salt) or chicken/vegetable stock.
•1tbsp corn starch or arrowroot
•1tbsp honey or brown rice syrup
•1tsp sesame oil
•1tsp rice wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
•1 finger size knob of ginger grated
•2 cloves of garlic, diced
•optional flavour extras: chilli, coriander, basil, lemongrass
Combine together and store in a air tight jar.
